Method
 

Preparation
  1. Begin by carefully cutting the apples in half and removing the cores. Peel the halves and carve whimsical faces.
  2. Mix 2 cups of water with 1 tablespoon of citric acid or ½ cup of lemon juice. Soak the carved apple heads in this mixture for about 5 minutes.
  3. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and place soaked apple heads on a baking sheet. Bake for approximately 3 hours.
  4. Raise the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and line a tart pan with the pie crust. Bake the crust for about 10 minutes.
  5. Once the crust has cooled, arrange the baked apple heads inside the shell. Fill gaps with walnuts, cranberries, and drizzle with honey or maple syrup.
  6. Place the tart back in the oven and bake for another 15-17 minutes.
