Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by steaming the frozen gyoza dumplings according to the package instructions (7–10 minutes). Toss with sesame oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Whisk together 1/4 cup of tamari, 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup in a mixing bowl. Pour over cooked dumplings and toss gently.
  3. Chop heirloom tomatoes into wedges, slice English cucumber and scallions. Combine with dumplings and add red chili pepper if desired.
  4. Tear basil leaves over the salad and sprinkle with sesame seeds or fried onions for garnish.
  5. Serve immediately at room temperature or chilled.
