Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, panko breadcrumbs, apple butter, cilantro, cumin, smoked paprika, and season with salt and pepper. Mix gently to avoid compacting the meat.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties about ¾ inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center.
  3. Preheat grill or skillet to medium heat. Cook patties for about 8-10 minutes on each side until golden brown. Top with Gouda cheese in the last minutes.
  4. Slice the sweet onion and sauté in olive oil in a separate skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until golden brown, adding a tablespoon of apple butter towards the end.
  5. Toast the burger buns lightly, place each burger on a bun, and top with caramelized onions. Serve immediately.
