Step‑by‑Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 0.5 cup of packed brown sugar, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Cut in 0.5 cup of cold unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Evenly press the crumbly mixture into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of packed light brown sugar, 0.5 cup of heavy cream, and 0.25 cup of unsalted butter. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil, then simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of chopped and toasted pecans. Carefully pour the pecan caramel over the baked crust.
- Return to the oven for another 10-12 minutes until caramel is set.
- Allow to cool slightly, then melt 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring until smooth.
- Drizzle the melted chocolate over the caramel layer in a zig-zag motion. Let the bars cool completely.
- Use the parchment overhang to lift the bars out of the pan, slice into squares, and serve.
