  • 1 kg Frozen Mixed Fruit Such as black forest or mixed berries
  • 2 Count Granny Smith Apples Can substitute with any tart apple
For the Sweetness
  • 4 tablespoons Caster Sugar Can substitute with granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Mixed Spice Cinnamon and nutmeg are good alternatives
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Bean Paste Vanilla extract can be a substitute
  • 1 Count Lemon Zest Freshly grated
For the Crumble Topping
  • 150 g Butter Cold and diced
  • 150 g Plain Flour Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version
  • 4 tablespoons Caster Sugar
  • 80 g Rolled Oats Quick oats can also be used but may alter the texture

Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (Fan 180°C/Gas 6) and prepare a deep baking dish.
  2. Spread 1 kg of frozen mixed fruit evenly across the bottom of the baking dish and add chopped Granny Smith apples on top.
  3. In a bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of caster sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground mixed spice, lemon zest, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla bean paste, then sprinkle over the fruit.
  4. Combine 150g of diced cold butter, 150g of plain flour, and 4 tablespoons of caster sugar until crumbly, then fold in 80g of rolled oats.
  5. Spread the crumble topping evenly over the fruit.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving with custard, ice cream, or fresh cream.
