For the Granita
  • 4 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk drizzle more on top for indulgence
  • 6 tablespoons medium, coarsely ground coffee use Trung Nguyen or Cafe Du Monde for authenticity
  • 12-14 oz. hot water just below boiling for brewing coffee

  • additional sweetened condensed milk for drizzling on top
  • fresh mint leaves for garnish

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large jar, add 4 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk and stir for a few seconds until slightly combined.
  2. Brew your coffee using either a French press or phin filter with 6 tablespoons of coffee and 12-14 oz. of hot water. Allow to steep for 4 minutes then press down.
  3. Pour the freshly brewed coffee into the jar with sweetened condensed milk. Stir for about 30 seconds until well combined and let cool slightly.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a shallow pan and spread it evenly. Freeze for about 35-40 minutes until edges begin to firm up.
  5. Use a fork to scrape the mixture into icy flakes, returning it to the freezer every 35-40 minutes for 3-4 times.
  6. Spoon the light and fluffy granita into bowls and drizzle with additional sweetened condensed milk. Serve immediately.
