In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake in the preheated oven for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may look slightly underbaked; they will continue to set as they cool.
Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
