  • 2 medium Onions sliced
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil or butter for richer flavor
  • 1 tsp Sugar optional
  • 2 cups Beef Broth or vegetable broth
For the Topping
  • 1 cup Gruyère Cheese or Swiss/Fontina

Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into meatballs.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Cook meatballs for 6-8 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add onions and sugar. Cook on medium-low heat for 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
  4. Pour in beef broth, scrape the skillet, and bring to a gentle simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle Gruyère cheese over the meatballs, cover, and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until melted.
