Description

Delicious and festive Patriotic Sugar Cookie Bars perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ cup red and blue sprinkles (for decoration)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Sprinkle the red and blue sprinkles evenly over the top of the dough.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Once the bars are completely cool, drizzle the frosting over the top.
  11. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • For a fun twist, try adding lemon or orange zest to the dough for a citrusy flavor.
  • You can also substitute the sprinkles with chocolate chips or nuts for a different texture.
