- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- ½ cup red and blue sprinkles (for decoration)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- Sprinkle the red and blue sprinkles evenly over the top of the dough.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Once the bars are completely cool, drizzle the frosting over the top.
- Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- For a fun twist, try adding lemon or orange zest to the dough for a citrusy flavor.
- You can also substitute the sprinkles with chocolate chips or nuts for a different texture.
