Description

Classic Tiramisu is a delightful Italian dessert made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich mascarpone cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until the mixture is pale and creamy.
  3. Add the mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture and gently fold until smooth and well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  5. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.
  6. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the mascarpone mixture until no white streaks remain.
  7. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them, and layer them in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish.
  8. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly.
  9. Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  10. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  11. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the coffee liqueur and use flavored coffee instead.
  • You can add a layer of chocolate ganache between the mascarpone layers for an extra indulgent treat.
