Description

A delightful pastry filled with a creamy cheese mixture, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until it comes together. Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cut the dough into squares, approximately 4×4 inches.
  7. In a medium bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk until smooth.
  8. Place a spoonful of the cheese filling in the center of each square of dough.
  9. Fold the corners of the dough over the filling to create a pocket and pinch to seal.
  10. Place the filled pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a fruity twist, add a spoonful of your favorite jam or fresh berries to the cheese filling before sealing the pastries.
  • Drizzle a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk over the cooled pastries for added sweetness and decoration.
